Metro customers help mark World Public Transport Day

The two-minute film shows a cross section of Metro users, giving their thoughts on how the network helps them to stay connected in their everyday lives.

Metro operator Nexus produced it as part of the inaugural World Public Transport Day, Friday 17 April.

Cathy Massarella, Managing Director of Nexus, said: “We are proud to play our part in marking the first ever World Public Transport Day.

“We are joining with thousands of other transport operators around the world in marking this event.

“Our film showcases just a few of the many people who use the Metro to get to places of work, leisure and to stay connected. It underscores the importance of public transport and how proud we are to serve the people of this region.”

World Public Transport Day has been organised by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).

It is a global celebration of the role of public transport to the success of towns and cities, economic prosperity, and sustainable development.

Approximately 2,000 UITP members from 100 countries have contributed to activities in metro, bus, and tram networks, in stations, and in the digital environment.

Through this initiative, UITP aims to raise awareness among citizens and decision-makers about the benefits of public transport: cleaner air, healthier cities, greater social inclusion, and a direct contribution to economic growth.
