Jobs available in Metro overhead line maintenance
Eleven vacancies are currently being advertised, with the closing date of Thursday 30 April.
Five overhead line maintainers are being taken on, as well as other managerial and supervisory positions.
Successful applicants will also get the chance to play a part in the wider renewal of Metro’s overhead power lines, as part of an ongoing multi-million-pound modernisation programme.
The overhead line teams are responsible for the maintenance and repair of power cables across the 77km network. The system provides 1500 volts of direct current which is required to power the trains.
Stuart Clarke, Infrastructure Director at Nexus, said: “We are investing in our overhead line team, by offering eleven roles in an essential area of Metro infrastructure maintenance and renewal works.
“This strengthens our existing resource base, providing us with improved incident response when issues arise with overhead lines, which are essential for the operation of the Metro system.
“It’s a great opportunity to join Nexus and forge a career at one of the most exciting times in our history as we invest in our infrastructure, roll out the new Metro train fleet, and get ready to expand the network.
“The successful applicants will play a vital role, not only in day-to-day maintenance duties, but also in the Metro Asset Renewal Programme, installing new overhead lines across the Metro system to ensure its long-term future.”
The new roles include five maintenance and overhead linespersons. This involves inspection, maintenance, repair and renewal works across the Nexus infrastructure, including Metro’s 1500v DC Overhead Line system.
The other roles cover:
- 1 x charge person
- 2 x section supervisors
- 1 x assistant engineering manager
- 1 x principal technical officer
- 1x engineering manager for overhead line.
